Magic Origins Games Day At Dueller's Point Coverage: Round 1

A total of 37 players participated in our event today with 6 rounds of swiss being played.

Contrary to the wet weather today, a staggering 60 percent of the deck today is Mono-Red burn with 30 percent of the meta being thoper based artifact decks with several Abzan Midrange and Jeskai Decks and insterestingly a turbo fog being played today.

With so many burn decks, players are hoping that it will be a relatively short 6 round swiss today!

Featured Match: Round 1 (Ray Wee V.S Alex Lim)

The first featured match of games day has Ray Wee, our very recent Grand Prix Singapore Top 8 against Alex Lim, a returning player after a long hiatus.

Ray is playing GB Elves and Alex is playing UR Goblins.

Game 1

Ray opens the game with an elvish mystic followed by a Dwynen's Elite on turn 2. Not to be undone, Alex starts the attack with a swiftspear on turn one followed by a dashing lightning berserker pumped for one point.

A goblin rabblemaster generated more gobins to attack while Ray's chord of calling found him Dwynen, Gilt Leaf DaenUnfortunately for Ray, Alex's rabblemaster made two tokens which was tapped to pay for the convoke cost for Stoke the Flames to kill Dwynen.

Alex then attacks with a flurry of tokens and wins him the first Game.

Game 2

Similar to game 1, both players made tokens with Dwynen's Elite and Goblin Rabblemaster respectively. The difference between the previous game though was the Ray has an Obelisk of Urd to help super charge his elves this time and after chump blocking for several turns, Alex scoops and the match proceeds to Game 3.

Game 3

Alex keeps an explosive hand and hits a turn 1 swiftspear, attacking Ray for 1. Ray casts a turn 1 elvish mystic which was promptly killed by a searing blood on Alex's turn triggering prowress on swiftspear. Ray takes 5 damage during that turn and has his life reduced to 14.

Ray finding no play on turn 2, passes the turn back to Alex whom recipocated by casting a dashed lightning berserker and then attacking with swiftspear for a total of 4 points.

Ray finally manages to play an Elvish Visionary as a blocker on turn 4 but to no avail has he was too low on life and a post combat Stoke the Flames sealed his fate.

Alex wins the match 2-0 and proceeds to round two with confidence!
